What Is Medical Detox?

Medical detox is the first and most critical step in addiction recovery. At AHVets, detox is provided in a safe residential setting staffed by licensed, certified substance abuse counselors. When your body is physically dependent on alcohol or drugs, withdrawal can be dangerous — our team monitors you around the clock to ensure your safety and comfort.

Unlike a hospital or clinical setting, our home-like environment removes the stigma and anxiety that can prevent veterans from seeking help. Detox typically lasts 5 to 10 days depending on the substance and individual medical needs. Our team conducts ongoing progress evaluations throughout your stay and develops an individualized treatment plan for your next step.

Our Detox Facilities

We operate three distinct detox settings to meet the needs of every veteran and community member:

Co-Ed Detox

Our main detox home serves men and women in a shared, supervised residential environment. All genders are welcome in a safe, structured setting.

Veterans Men's Detox

A dedicated detox home for male veterans — a brother-to-brother environment staffed and designed by those who understand military service and its unique challenges.

LGBTQ+-Inclusive Detox

An affirming, culturally sensitive detox environment for LGBTQ+ veterans and community members. Every person deserves to feel safe while seeking help.
